University of Chicago Projects

I have written two major projects for my employer, the University of Chicago. These projects are copyrighted by the Trustees of the University of Chicago, and are made available under the Free Software Foundation’s General Public License (GPL). They are hosted here as a temporary measure, until an “official” site for them is found.

Both applications are compatible with Mac OS X versions 10.2.8 and higher. Universal versions are coming soon.

Crescat is an ANSI terminal emulator for use with the SSH secure-communications protocol. Its features include:

Full ANSI terminal emulation, including printing.
Supports the ISO-Latin-1 character set.
Optional highlighting of URLs and email addresses in the terminal window.
Spell checking (handy in terminal-based mail clients).
Per-host control of foreground and background colors.
True blinking text (or optionally a static marking for blinking text).
Terminal contents can be saved as plain or rich text.

Down and Out™ is a screen-saver module that presents a countdown clock, with a configurable message and optionally with an image. When the countdown expires, all open applications are closed, and the current user is logged out. Features:

Configurable warning message.
Configurable time-to-logout.
Optional image to accompany message.
Quits applications safely: “Quit” Apple event used whenever possible.
Logs quit and killed applications to a file in /tmp.
